Litmus paper, which indicates the alkalinity or acidity of a bodily fluid, is routinely used in medical tests to this day. The traditional standard packaging left the paper vulnerable to contamination, which in turn, could skew the results of a vital test. Unlike other companies, Johnson & Johnson packaged its litmus paper in air-tight boxes, protecting the integrity of the sensitive material.
