Hand Book of First Aid, 1901

First published in 1901, the Hand Book of First Aid was inspired by the company’s First Aid Kits. The kits were originally designed to treat the injuries incurred by railroad workers, who toiled hundreds of miles away from professional medical care. Scientific Director Fred Kilmer set to work researching and writing the first comprehensive commercial first aid guide. Using illustrations and descriptions to teach laymen and medical professionals how to effectively respond to a variety of emergency situations, Kilmer’s handbook helped show Americans how to keep wounds germ free.
